Activities

In geothermal energy today, IGG is mainly engaged on three fronts:

  • through participation in national and international projects, it provides advanced assessments of geothermal resources (geothermal potential, favourability, pre-feasibility and feasibility of geothermal projects) and carries out research and development for the optimisation of exploration techniques and the use of geothermal systems:

    • monitoring and mitigation of environmental impact;

    • optimisation of geo-exchange techniques;

    • use of unconventional resources such as supercritical and geopressurised resources.

  • participates in research coordination and policy activities at European level (Research coordination and policy activities).

  • carries out training, information and dissemination activities (How we train and inform), collection and organisation of data and information in the geothermal field (GeoThopica, EPOS and IRENA).
